"It was just a dreaM.

we stood on the road and responded to thE question in THE BOOK OF Isaiah.

Do you not see it?"

Songkrua Chun Aus Songkum is a Cambodian NGO that was founded in 2003. It exists to provide a safe haven for families living with aids, orphan children and destitute elderly women.

Songkrua means 'Rescue'.

THEN AND NOW

Songkrua started with just 15 houses for AIDS families.  Today the dream has expanded into 3 Centres and 3 University Dorms throughout Cambodia, caring for over 400 children, 50 families including 30 adults living with aids and over 30 elderly women. Children are placed into family settings with Christian house parents, who raise either ten girls or ten boys in a home on one of the three centres.

NEW DREAMS

Children at Songkrua (Rescue) are raised by Cambodians and are taught to respect and appreciate their culture. They are also shown everyday God's great love for them. As they grow and move on to University or skill training, the dream is that they will always know that Songkrua is their Forever Home.

LIFE AT SONGKRUA (RESCUE)

CENTRE 1 - BEK CHAN

Centre 1 is located close to Bek Chan, a small town not far from the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Situated on a 10 acre property, it is surrounded by lush, green rice fields and sugar palm trees that sway in the  tropical breeze. Centre 1 has grown over the years and is now home to families living with AIDS, hundreds of orphans and also the “Grannies”, elderly women who lost their children years ago to the Khmer rouge or more recently, to AIDS. There is an elementary school on site, a learning centre, fish ponds, playgrounds, a soccer field and recreation centre, a wading pool for the little ones and a sewing centre where staff keep busy mending and sewing new outfits for hundreds of growing kids.

CENTRE II - MONGKOL BOREY

In 2008 Songkrua began to help an existing orphanage in the northern town of Mongkol Borey. Here about 70 children were being cared for by loving Christian people who had very few means to care for them properly. Now over 120 children call this place home where they reside in comfortable homes with loving house parents. Some of the older children have grown up and are pursuing their university studies in a nearby city where they stay in one of our House of New Dreams dorms.

CENTRE III - PAILIN

In January 2011 Centre III was birthed in the province of Pailin. On the northern edge of the Cardamom Mountains near the border of Thailand, Centre III now has ten homes where over 70 children are being cared for and call home.

HOUSE OF NEW DREAMS

3 dormitories entitled House of New Dreams have been established in Phnom Penh and the northern town of Sisophan. These dorms provide a home to those who are pursuing university studies or other skill training. When the children grow up and are ready to leave the orphanage, Songkrua wants to launch them well.  We believe they are the future leaders of the nation of Cambodia!

IT TAKES A VILLAGE

School teachers, house parents, grounds keepers, nurses and many more make up over 100 dedicated staff at Songkrua.
